I believe everyone has a comfort food. Between pizza, pasta, and fish dishes, I’m comfortable all day. And, since I have been following a strict gluten-free diet, I have found that many of my comfort dishes are naturally gluten-free. And, eating meals free of gluten has proven to be easy.

I enjoy eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Los Angeles. But, I wanted to be able to make some of my favorite dishes at home.

And, this Bubba Gump Net Catch is one of my copycat dishes from Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. It’s gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, and egg free. It’s an ideal dish for someone with multiple food allergies.

We typically only need dishes for two people, so this Bubba Gump Net Catch is perfect. But, you can easily save half the dish for the following day, or double the recipe.

I typically recommend gluten-free products that you can use to make my recipes, but Bubba Gump Net Catch requires basic ingredients that you can find at most grocery stores.

Bubba Gump’s Net Catch Copycat

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 35 minutes
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baby carrots (about 10, halved)
  • 1 cup sliced celery (½” pieces)
  • Tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3– pound baby yellow potatoes (about 3, halved)
  • 2 ears corn (cut crosswise)
  • 1/3 pound medium shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 4 ounces smoked andouille sausage (sliced 1” pieces, OR ground sausage meatballs, tablespoon size)
  • Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/3 teaspoon dried chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 lemon (sliced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bring a small pot of salted water to a boil. While water is heating, prepare the potatoes, corn, celery, carrots, and shrimp.
  2. Toss carrots and celery with tablespoon olive oil, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper on the baking sheet and bake for 18 minutes.
  3. Boil potatoes in the small pot for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, add corn to the pot, and cook for another 5 minutes. Drain potatoes and corn.
  4. Combine shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn, olive oil, Cajun seasoning, dried chili powder, salt, ground black pepper, paprika and celery salt in a 2-quart bowl. Remove baking sheet from the oven, add mixture, spread evenly, bake for 12-15 minutes.
  5. Serve with lemon wedges.

Notes

Kitchen Tools: Small Pot, Rimmed Baking sheet, 2-quart mixing bowl

Notes: This dish has been reported as “very spicy.” Squeezing lemon juice will balance the heat. But, if you prefer medium heat, I suggest using less chili powder. And, if you substitute the andouille sausage, use a mild or regular ground sausage. If you use spicy sausage, it’s going to increase the heat of the meatballs. If you can’t find smoked andouille sausage links, you can purchase four ounces of ground sausage and roll tablespoon size meatballs (see photo).
